Next up in the series, everything you need to know about engagement sessions :-)
Here are some things to think about BEFORE your session...
Schedule your session early: You should always schedule your session 1 month in advance because my schedule fills up fast. Especially if you are looking for a weekend session, weekends always fill up first! The best time of day to have your sessions is about 90 minutes before sunset. This will give you that beautiful natural light that you see in my photos.
Pick a location that means something to you: When picking a location I think it's best to pick a place that has meaning to you in some way. I have plenty of suggestions so feel free to ask if you need help picking the best spot!
Coordinate outfits: Now this doesn’t mean both of you should 100% match with khaki pants or jeans and a white shirt! You want to complement each other’s outfits by choosing colors that work well together. I find that if the couple is wearing the same clothing, they tend to blend in together and there won’t be too much pop and life to the images. Pinterest is a great place to look for some outfit inspiration, be sure to check out my inspiration board here: https://www.pinterest.com/darcyfinephoto/outfit-inspiration/
Casual vs. Dressy: Most couples like to bring two outfits, one that is casual and one that is a little more dressy. This is by no means a requirement, but if you want to have an outfit change I recommend having one in each style. As long as you are both comfortable in the outfits you choose that is really all that matters. If you have your future hubby wear something he absolutely hates, it will show in the photos.
Prepare your groom: Like most men, I am sure your Fiancé isn't nearly as excited about these photos as you are. To help prepare him for whats to come, I suggest showing him a few engagement sessions that I have done so he knows what to expect. Sometimes, as women, we forget that the men in our lives aren't scouring Pinterest looking for engagement photo ideas like we are, so it's best to give your groom a little heads up before the session.
Let your personalities shine: Perhaps the most important “rule” in my book. The purpose of these photos is to hopefully capture each individual as they truly are, to capture the relationship, and love you both have for each other. You two are about to get MARRIED, this is such an exciting time in your life!! Try to relax and enjoy this time with each other, this will be one hour out of your day that you don't have to worry about wedding planning! I will guide you through this process, so please don't worry about posing yourselves!
Getting all dolled up: Some women choose to have their make-up trial done before their engagement session and I think this is a wonderful idea! By doing it this way you won't have to worry about doing your own make-up for the session and you can check something else off of your wedding "to-do" list!
Clean the bling: I always try to take some ring shots during these sessions, so if you need to get your ring cleaned, make sure you do that before your session! We want that bling to SHINE!
Pre-Session Questionnaire: About a week before your session I will send over the session prep questionnaire as well as the photography session agreement! These two documents are super important and so helpful when I am preparing for your amazing photography experience!
What happens DURING your session...
The session should last up to an hour: Plan for the session to be 45 minutes to an hour long. We will have so much fun the time will just fly by!!
Outfit Changes and Props: There will be plenty of time for a few outfit changes. I recommend bringing no more then 2 outfits so we have more time to get amazing photos! Feel free to bring any props you want to your session! Some couples like to bring signs with their wedding date on it so they can use that photo for Save the Date cards.
What happens AFTER your session…
Facebook Preview: A few days after your session I will post a sneak peak of a few photos on Facebook and Instagram! Be sure and “Like” my facebook page (www.facebook.com/darcyfinephotography) and follow me on Instagram (@darcyfinephoto) so you can see when the photos are posted!
Final Gallery: Your final gallery will be delivered between 7-14 days after your session. You can order prints straight from your gallery and they will be delivered right to your door! You will have an entire month to purchase photos before your gallery expires. But I am sure you will be so excited to order prints that you won’t need the full month!
So, how does all of that sound? Are you ready to book your session?
