Next up in the series, everything you need to know about Maternity sessions :-)
Here are some things to think about BEFORE your session...
Schedule your session early: The best time to schedule your maternity session is when you are between 32-36 weeks pregnant. You should always schedule your session 1 month in advance because my schedule fills up fast. Especially if you are looking for a weekend session, weekends always fill up first! The best time of day to have your sessions is about 90 minutes before sunset. This will give you that beautiful natural light that you see in my photos.
Pick a location that means something to you: When picking a location I think it's best to pick a place that has meaning to you in some way. I have plenty of suggestions so feel free to ask if you need help picking the best spot!
Coordinate outfits: Now this doesn’t mean everyone should 100% match with khaki pants or jeans and a white shirt! You want to complement each other’s outfits by choosing colors that work well together. I find that if the everyone is wearing the same clothing, they tend to blend in together and there won’t be too much pop and life to the images. Stay away from busy patterns when choosing what to wear! Busy patterns can take away and sometimes even hide your belly, solid colors work best. Maxi dresses work well, just make sure it is a solid color. Pinterest is a great place to look for some outfit inspiration, be sure to check out my inspiration board here: https://www.pinterest.com/darcyfinephoto/outfit-inspiration/
Accentuate that beautiful bump: Wear things that are flattering to your body and show off the main reason for this session, your bump! An easy way to make your bump stand out a little more is to add a belt or wear things that are tight around your belly.
Bare belly or not: This is totally a personal preference. Some women don’t feel comfortable showing off a bare belly and that’s totally okay! If you do want to do a few shots of your bare belly, make sure you plan your outfits accordingly. Be careful of wearing things that will leave elastic marks on your belly before the shoot.
Wear comfortable shoe: After all, you are pregnant and I'm sure it’s getting a little uncomfortable to walk around for long periods of time. If you are comfortable in heels and that is your style, then go ahead and flaunt them! If you are anything like me, you may prefer some type of flat shoe or sandal!
Let your personalities shine: Perhaps the most important “rule” in my book. The purpose of these photos is to hopefully capture each individual as they truly are, to capture the relationship, and love you both have for each other. You two are about to have a baby, this is such an exciting time in your life!! Whether it's your first baby or your fifth, each pregnancy and baby is so unique and it's so important to document this special time. Try to relax and enjoy this time with each other, if this is your first baby, this may be one of the last times that you have as just the TWO of you. I will guide you through this process, so please don't worry about anything at all!
Props: This is another thing that is a personal preference, some people need to have them, others see their bump as the only prop they need. An ultrasound picture, the first letter of the baby’s name, blocks with letters or a pair of booties are all items that can be tastefully added to your shoot.
Pre-Session Questionnaire: About a week before your session I will send over the session prep questionnaire as well as the photography session agreement! These two documents are super important and so helpful when I am preparing for your amazing photography experience!
What happens DURING your session...
The session should last up to an hour: Plan for the session to be 45 minutes to an hour long. We will have so much fun the time will just fly by!! The most important thing during the session is your safety. We will take as many breaks as you need and I will bring water for you!
Outfit Changes and Props: There will be plenty of time for a few outfit changes. I recommend bringing no more then 2 outfits so we have more time to get amazing photos! Feel free to bring any props you want to your session! See above for some special props that some people like to include in their session.
What happens AFTER your session…
Facebook Preview: A few days after your session I will post a sneak peak of a few photos on Facebook and Instagram! Be sure and “Like” my facebook page (www.facebook.com/darcyfinephotography) and follow me on Instagram (@darcyfinephoto) so you can see when the photos are posted!
Final Gallery: Your final gallery will be delivered between 7-14 days after your session. You can order prints straight from your gallery and they will be delivered right to your door! You will have an entire month to purchase photos before your gallery expires. But I am sure you will be so excited to order prints that you won’t need the full month!
So, how does all of that sound? Are you ready to book your session?
